After seeing today that 11 out of 11 home teams covered the spread, I have decided that I would like to compile a list of those teams that play well on the road. If everyone could be so kind as to list those teams that are good on the road and give solid reasons or statistics why would be appreciated.

I have been playing Gonzaga, St Joes, Wisc-Mil, Ill-Chicago, and Western Mich pretty much the whole year. I look for teams with great guard play that cam control the ball in hostile environments.

fairwarning,

I agree with Gonzaga,St.Joe's , and Western Michigan (until today). Wisc Milwaukee has lost last 2 to Youngstown and Ill Chi. Do you have stats supporting Ill Chi and Wisc Milw?

i think what your doing will be great for the tournanment.

but today is a bad day to look at. and not just today i mean, SUNDAYS seem to always have more home teams winning, and usually blowouts. that's been the trend i've noticed.

gracie lou, I am not doing it because of today but my purpose of doing it is in looking at road favorites. I believe if we go back and look at everyone's selections over the weekend, a lot of us took road favorites. There really wasn't too many people who were stellar over the weekend. So what I a want to examine is what teams are covering on the road and are any of them road favorites. This would be helpful for the upcoming tournaments as well as any future bets.

If anyone subscribes to the Gold Sheet, the pointspread records for each team, whether at home or on the road is detailed, including as a favorite or a dog. Also published is the Gold Sheet Weekly Record with even greater detail. There must be at least one forum member who is a subscriber.

i got 14-10 on sat wins for rd.

i have all that for the past 10 days at a pretty quick ref, the whole season would take some time.

maybe do the top 100rpi and see what they are doing, since they will be the ones oin the tourney more than likely.

but its your baby, just giving out suggestions.

i know at one point one of my trends was taking road teams favorite and i was 19-2, then about 42-14. stopped using it though, started to switch to much towards home. teams are starting to get tired.

actually i got my ass handed to me this weekend on home favorites, one part of my system leading up to sat was 15-6, it went 0-10. ouch.
another one was 21-10, it went 6-5. a lot of the -1 pk for home did very well this weekend, but that trend goes day by day it seems like.

the last 10 days i got 48-27-1 for rd fav. it's a pretty close total anyway.

i understand your point and could help if needed.

Just by conferences, get out west, not in order but strong road teams vs. their conference teams-----------

Utah,Unlv, and wyoming. These 3 teams are hovering near .500 or over for the past several years..Wyoming has been real bad of late.

Kojak,

Good subject. How about examining which teams have a great home court advantage vs those that do not have a big home court advantage?

For example Colorado has a great home court advantage, and it seems most Big 12 teams are great at home. But teams like Miami and Boston College often play in a half empty gym or in front of the imposing teams fans on their own homecourt.

Not all Home Court advantages are equal...

discdork and coloradobuff,

Maybe we should expand to find out not only who are the best road teams ats but also who are th worst ats. It would be helpful for upcoming tournaments. It might take some work but could prove to be extremely beneficial.

Just a word of caution. Handicapping the conference tournaments and NCAA tournament is different then regular season handicapping just as in football, the bowl season is different then the regular season. In hoops, often times many of the games in conference tournaments are played before small crowds until the evening as day time games go somewhat unattended so the level of intensity is not quite the same. This is also the case in the early rounds of the NCAA tournament. Many of these sites become truly neutral, except for the home host in the conference tournaments, and thus the road ATS is not exactly applicable. This is where the numbers are very important as the teams play to their talent and ability and a major reason why there are so many upsets, particularly ATS.
